About the Association of Texas Colleges and Universities
The Next Level is an outreach project of the Association of Texas Colleges and Universities (ATCU). Founded in 1916, ATCU is the largest organization of college and university leaders in the state. Members include presidents and chancellors from across the multifaceted Texas higher education system-public and independent colleges and universities, community colleges, health-related campuses, and public technical colleges.
About The Next Level
Before it was a Web site, The Next Level was a print publication. The Association of Texas Colleges and Universities published the first edition of The Next Level—What Colleges Expect from Your Writing in 2002. The booklet and a teacher's guide were distributed at no cost to Texas public high schools. Colleges and universities around the state hosted teacher-training workshops to support classroom use of the publication.
Now the print materials—and newly developed training resources for teachers—are available on the World Wide Web. As the The Next Level evolves from print to electronic format, collaboration between Texas higher education and secondary educators remains the hallmark of the project.
Funds from the Houston Endowment, Inc., supplemented by the Sid Richardson Foundation, have supported The Next Level since its inception.
